Mission Statement
The Huntsville and Area Historical Society is dedicated to recognizing, documenting, preserving, and sharing the heritage and culture of our area. We strive to further the continued education and awareness to foster awareness and appreciation of said heritage for current and future generations.
Goals
To assist local governments in heritage matters and encourage public access to all heritage documents:
To research, document, collect, preserve, and edit material pertaining to the history of Huntsville and area as related to its people and the physical, social folkloric, agricultural and industrial aspects of its culture:
To publish new materials and reprint previous documents of significance to the history of Huntsville and area:
To provide a registry for researchers in order to prevent duplication of works and to provide a vehicle for sharing information:
To provide a friendly forum for those interested in Huntsville and area historical and heritage information, in order to encourage a wider knowledge and appreciation of the history of this area:
To encourage the preservation and protection of buildings and structures of historical and architectural significance; and to encourage protection of our natural landscapes:
To acknowledge, in some way, Huntsville’s history during Heritage Week:
To awaken interest in the past by collecting and disseminating historical information through meetings, educational programs, exhibits, lectures papers, books and electronic media:
